WI Well SOS-Save Our Sisters

With over 200,000 people living in poverty in Alameda County, the Work It Well Project has a mission to provide innovative solutions for the most vulnerable members of our community. Our primary intake program for women - Save Our Sisters (SOS) - serves women with barriers and/or are in transition based on hardships, limited income, lack of wisdom, lack of resources or limited exposure. Our objective is to help transform their lives and become healthier, economically empowered, safe, and inspired.

We provide our women proteges with extensive case management services that includes work experience through employment placement, career exploration, education, skills building, entrepreneurship coaching, resources, food, wellness, housing placement, referrals and/or entrepreneurship as a supplemental income. We have worked with hundreds of women to change their lives for the better, putting them on a track to success. Many of the women that we serve are mothers, grandmothers and leaders so our impact goes beyond the individual needs, but their children, families, and communities. ​

“A young lady in a domestic violence relationship was referred to us by one of our partners and enrolled in the Save Our Sisters program in a dark time of her life. The wrap around services identified an opportunity with a partnership that provides housing and trauma support for violence victims.  She was able to move away from the risky work she had been doing in adult entertainment and gain a healthy career. In the process she became stable so that she was able to obtain full custody of her son.”

“One low-income woman whose only income was from Social Security benefits wanted to transition into the workforce but had little work experience. Through our employment training partnerships,  she was packaged with work experience opportunities and gained new skills and confidence. We both made unified effort to provide a career opportunity that doubled her income within the same year.”

​WI Well SOB -Save Our Brothers

Save Our Brothers (SOB) is a wrap-around program targeting men who experience barriers that set them back from reaching their goals. The program elements are based on the participant’s needs, and include employment placement, entrepreneurship exploration, health, wellness, leadership, life-skills, personal and professional development. Over the 25 years in service, we developed a cohort of partnership organizations, and businesses where clients are placed in employment positions that fit their diverse skills and interests, while providing other necessary services around housing, food, transportation, and health. Our objective is to inspire men and find replacement options that can meet them where they are while helping them explore what they can become and creating a safe place for them to share in order for them to find solutions to their life challenges.

​“A housing-insecure couple was living in their car through the Covid-19 pandemic when they enrolled in our program for our wrap around services. We referred them to one of our partner agencies that can assist the wife in pursuit of obtaining Social Security benefits, making sure that she was able to get the public assistance that she desperately needed. They also helped her husband secure consistent income by placing him in a temporary job opportunity until we identified an employee partnership in his credentialed career. Additionally, they were placed in housing paid for through our partnering agencies and are now able to sustain on their own.”

BOX UP B.A.R.S. (Business As A Replacement Strategy)

The BOX UP B.A.R.S. offers a replacement and supplement strategy that serves vulnerable populations as an intervention of interruption violence triggers and to those who have barriers that limits employment wages, providing them a better chance of reaching their goals and lesser chance of self destructive, violent and/or risky behavior.  We hope to be a solution addressing the growing rate of those who lost their jobs, who have fallen behind and have been negatively impacted from the COVID Pandemic. Business as a replacement or supplement (BOX UP BARS) Strategy brings clients up to speed introducing them to  thriving career choices, job readiness, resources professional development, personal transformation, mentor-ship, wrap around support and entrepreneurship exploration.
